Car Manufacturers Earn Our Loyalty

Though customers are constantly urged to abandon loyalty in the car insurance market to find the best deals, when it comes to the cars themselves many of us prefer to stick with what we know - even when the worst happens.

Car insurance company Admiral looked at figures from 16,000 total loss claims when the car is written-off. It found that Ford drivers are the most loyal with an impressive 40.3 per cent of Ford owners replacing their car with another Ford - the Ford Focus being the most popular.

Volkswagen wasn't far behind with a 39.9 per cent loyalty rate - the Volkswagen Golf the most likely to be replaced with a like-for-like model. There was recognition too for Mercedes, BMW and Vauxhall which completed the top five.

By contrast, of the 21 manufacturers listed, Seat was bottom of the pile with a loyalty rate of just 14.8 per cent. Hyundai also failed to impress its owners with figures of just 15.3 per cent.

These statistics show the positive impression that vehicles can make on their owners - however, when it comes to other aspects of motoring, drivers are urged to shop around.

In particular, motorists should consider all their options to find cheap car insurance. If you suffer a "at fault" vehicle write-off, your current car insurance provider will almost certainly wipe out or reduce your no-claims discount meaning premiums could sky rocket.

Consequently drivers should shop around - and potentially take advantage of the introductory offers available from other insurers, such as online discounts and cashback deals.
