Making RSS Work for Your Site

The web is a vast place, full of endless pieces of information. How do you make your site standout from the crowd? At the basic level, the goal of having an online presence is to attract web users to your site. Why else would you have a website? But how can you ensure that as many users as possible to your site. One way to increase traffic to your site is by adding an RSS feed will make your site more attractive to search engines, thus helping to drive traffic right to your site! The more visitors you receive, the more potential customers you’ll have!

RSS technically stands for Rich Site Summary, but many people refer to it as Really Simple Syndication. RSS feeds provide short descriptions of online content (such as news items) and also provide readers with links to the full version of the content. Subscribers can track updates to news items, compare product prices, or receive new articles on their specified topics.

The primary reason for the success of RSS is that it is highly targeted. People subscribe to an RSS feed because they want to receive it. Basically, RSS feeds are sent out to the ultimate audience: one that is not only willing to hear what you have to say, but who has sought out that information.

But what does that mean for your site? What can RSS do for you? People visit websites in order to get information. By extension, if you provide fresh content on your site, you’ll have a continuous stream of visitors to your site – both new and return customers. Further, search engines will help drive traffic to your site more often, too – as long as you add original content to your site regularly. Return visitors and an increased search-engine presence equates to potential revenue for you. If your site’s content never changes, it’s unlikely people will visit it more than once or twice.
